Biography
Since 1966 I am an artist. A part from portraits and still life’s, my work consists of symbolic and surrealistic paintings. Nature surrounds us all and it surprises me constantly and it is, with its wonderful forms and exciting structures, also a continuous source of inspiration to me.
I keep investigating possible ways to introduce innovations into my work of art. For example; subjects which I have thought out can be represented in such a way that form and content of the work merge into one whole.
I feel most attracted to figurative paintings and my work varies from (sur)realistic work to paintings wherein my own symbols are combined to express a certain thought or situation. My interest in surrealism is very clear: surrealistic elements form an essential part of the work. Absurd combinations evoke alienation and at the same time increase the effect and impact of that alienation.
Some of my paintings are in the collections of: the Drents Museum in Assen(NL), Museum “Het Markiezenhof” in Bergen op Zoom (NL), Stedelijk Museum in Zwolle (NL),Universitair Medisch Centrum Groningen (NL), Scheper Ziekenhuis te Emmen (NL)and many private collectors.
